I cannot not blog the Fourth of July, so here it is

Despite the fact that this blog is on life-support and I only post on Wednesdays now, I will post today, Thursday, July 4, 2013, simply because I am a loyal, patriotic American and so must acknowledge the holiday. In the evening, the family, less Caleb and Monica whose schedule would not allow and Rex and Cortney, off in Petersburg, gathered at Melanie's for a little barbecue.

Some food preparation was done indoors, too, under the direction of master chefs Diamond cat and Poof cat. Friday morning, tomorrow, actually only hours from now, Melanie leaves for UC Berkeley for a six week study program in environmental design. No one is helping her. She is doing it all on her own, taking the time off from work. She wants to reach out beyond where she is right now.

It was kind of frightening to watch Lisa come up the stairs. She made it without incident.

No so poor Lynx. He fell down hard on driveway pavement before he even got to the stairs. That's why there is a tear in his eye. He is in Melanie's house, now, opening the door to come back out to see if he can fall all the way down the stairs. It kind of worries me, this propensity of his to open all doors that close before him. He will not be dissuaded, either. No matter how many times you shoo him away from a door, he is soon back at it, opening the door again, eager to go through it.

Good attribute in many ways, but potentially dangerous, too.

Somebody strung up a badminton net. Kalib loved it. It was his first time.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, mushrooms and peppers were cooking on the grill. Charlie did the grilling. Inside, salad and potato salad were being prepared. Salmon roasted in the oven.

At some point, Lynxton opened the back door from inside and Poof got out. There was a big chase, lasting minutes, but finally Jake caught him and Melanie took him back inside.

Lynx, who had come out right behind Poof, observed the chaos his door opening had caused. He was most pleased.

Lisa could not join in on any chase for any cat, but she actually did very well today for having just gone through surgery yesterday. She was tired, though, and spent some time napping. Tomorrow, she goes back to work. I don't want her to, but she's going anyway. She says she'll be okay.

Roasted salmon. My coverage ends here. I forgot to put a fresh battery in my camera. It died. The food was excellent. It is almost midnight now. I remain stuffed.

Earlier, before Margie and In ventured off to Anchorage, I capitulated to the overwhelming demand I had been deluged with by Michelle in response to yesterday's post, and built two study posts. I will wait until tomorrow or whenever to post them.

Michelle accused me of being a bit of tease. I don't how she got such an idea.

I don't tease anyone.

I am a most serious guy.

That's Lavina, stealing a preview. I believe Charlie cooked it, but maybe Melanie was in on it, too. I'm not sure.

OK OK, I'm smiling now. Thanks Bill!
