With the aid of a cat, a duck family and birthday candles, I explain why I am blogging when I am not blogging

It's a holiday, damn it. Well, yesterday was the holiday but today is part of the holiday weekend. I decided to take the weekend off - at least yesterday and today. The real weekend begins tomorrow and lasts through Sunday and I think I have no choice but to work.

But, since I am taking yesterday and today off, and since I have been worn out and am too lazy to go out and have fun and catch a fish or do something like that, I figure I might as well include a few things in here that I have left out of this blog.

This does not include the two series of studies I put together yesterday at Michelle's demand. They are all done. I will post them tomorrow. Or maybe I will post one tomorrow and one Monday, so as to get a few more blog entries in during the time when I am officially not blogging.

Anyway, this cat lives a house or two away from Melanie. When I first spotted it, it was following the woman it owns as she walked down the road. I was in Melanie's house, looking out the window. It was a million dollar photograph for sure, but I had put my camera down somewhere and by the time I could pick it up, the picture had ended.

Later, I saw it sitting under this vehicle.

Shortly after that, it got up and wandered a couple of houses up the street. It went to sit in a driveway. A car soon came and parked in the driveway. A man got out, picked up what looked to be about a ten inch length of two-by-two and threw it at the cat.

I wanted to let that man have it, but Melanie has to live in the same neighborhood with him and I did not want him to take his retribution out on her.

She said it would have been okay, I could have scolded him good and even swore at him and she would have been fine with it. He has toddlers. She says he yells and swears at them, so it would it have been okay if I had yelled and sworn at him.

Of course, it wouldn't have done any good.

Remember how I did not think there would be any baby ducks in the pond the kids named Little Lake way back when? Remember how the big, ocean-going boat was churning circles in the tiny pond?

Well, there's baby ducks in it.

I don't remember what day I shot this. I could look at the meta data or pull it back up in Lightroom, but I am too lazy. It was at least a week ago. Longer than that, I think.

Caleb's birthday was June 26, but he was in Portland getting trained for his new job with Frito Lay. While there, he got to eat some Cheetos straight of the cooker. It was an incredible taste experience, he said, one that few people ever have.

We threw a party for him after he came home.

The duck family, a few days older. My, how those lings have grown!

Today was Monica's birthday. Caleb took her to Red Robin for dinner. We had cake when she came home. There were no little boys here so she had to blow out the candles herself. It is amazing how much brightness she has brought into Caleb's life since they came together I'm not quite sure how many months ago - back when it was still cold and dark.*

She has brightened all of our lives.

Well, there's a few more pictures I thought I might add, but Margie and I are going to watch a couple of shows, beginning in four minutes, so I will stop here.

I always manage to leave out a few words and create other typos when I post an entry. I would search for the dropped words now, but I need to get in and join Margie.

Maybe I will look later.**

In the meantime, if you find a sentence or two or three or four or half-a-dozen or more that make no sense, use your imagination.

*11:15 PM: I just remembered something - Caleb and Monica bought a boat late last summer. So it wasn't a few months ago when it was still cold and dark - but at least a year, probably more. My, how time does fly! They have different boat, now. Margie and I just watched a movie - a western with Tom Selleck - not the best ever made, but it was fun anyway. In a few minutes, we will watch another one. I'll do a quick run through for words I might have dropped. It is so odd how every time I write these days, I just leave out whole words, all over the place. The words are in my head when I write them and sometimes when I proofread, my head puts them right back and I don't even notice they are missing. If I read a day or two later, I will notice. I have always done this with typos, but the number of words I now leave out altogether is starting to scare me.

** 11:22 PM. I have now done a quick read through and I found I had dropped 210 words. I put them back in, but I am sure there are 420 more words I read just as though they were there, even though they weren't. Now to rejoin Margie and watch the second western movie.

I think words go on vacation. I've noticed some of mine missing too. Perhaps they are ones we have over used and they just need to get away and take a break. They'll be back after they have soaked up some sun and rested. I hope that kitty finds a nicer place to sit and rest. Some people shouldn't be around kids or pets! Cats can get away. Poor kids. Did Caleb bring home a suitcase of hot Cheetos for everyone?

Monica via her photo seems to exude a true happiness. I can see how she would brighten the lives of the people she knows. I, also, love how your family makes their birthday cakes.

Enjoy the summer light. ;)
