Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday dear Billy, happy birthday to me!

Today was my birthday. I turned four. Those of you who have known me for five, ten, 20, 40, 50, 60 years or more may find this hard to believe, but it is true. You can see it in the candles on the birthday cake my five-year old grandson Kalib carries to me. Candles on the birthday cake have never been known to be wrong - nor do they lie.

Kalib brings the cake so I can blow out the candles.

Jobe ambushes the candles before the cake can reach me. He snuffs three of the four just like that! Well, maybe I can blow out the fourth.

No! Kalib does not want to be left out of the action. He blows out the fourth candle before it comes into my range.

Then Kalib brings me the first piece of cake, with ice cream. When I see his face, I wonder if there is going to be any frosting left on my cake. Thankfully, there was. I don't know what I would have done, if my cake had no frosting on it.

It was a good piece of cake. Margie made it.

Earlier, even before the cake was ready or the chicken dinner eaten, Kalib and Jobe played a game of water-hose basketball. Kalib won. Jobe never even got a shot in. The motorcycle, for those of you who do not know, is a relic Caleb pushed home when he was in high school. He had bought it off of someone for $80.

He parked it in the back yard and here it has sat ever since.

I took a number of other pictures, too, including some pretty fun ones, but, as you can see, I am running out of time, so I will move along to the inevitable departures, starting with my beautiful daughter Lisa, who is recovering quite well from her first round of knee surgery. Bryce was unable to come.

Melanie did not come today, because she is at UC Berkeley, taking the six week course in environmental engineering. She did call. She said the weather is nice there, every day. Most mornings, there is fog and it looks like it is going to be cool, but then the fog goes away and it is nice.

Charlie was also unable to make it, but he texted me a picture of a very fat cat, so that was good

Then Jacob, Lavina, Kalib and Jobe left. Lynxton stayed behind to spend the night with us, the plan being that tomorrow I will drive him and Margie into town so she can begin her weekly baby sitting duties. Caleb and Mo stayed, too.

Then Rex left. He had caught a halibut and brought a piece with him. Cortney is in Petersburg, doctoring in the hospital there. She sent me a "happy birthday" text from the emergency room.

Lynx then decided he did not want to stay here tonight after all. He had missed his Aunt Melanie. He decided to drive down to Berkeley and visit her. We told him he couldn't go, but he found my keys, snuck into the car and drove off toward California anyway.

We need that car. I don't know what we are going to do without it. How will I drive Margie and Lynx into town tomorrow?

I had not intended to do this. But on Facebook, Veronica Neakok told me to do it. So here it is - a picture of me on the day I turned four.

I don't know how the hell this could be. Inside my soul, I still feel like a kid. I still think I am a kid. I got lots to do yet - mountains to climb, waves to ride, books to write. How can I be turning into an old man?

It happens too damn fast.

When you are young, you hear old people say that and you don't believe them. You are certain these old people have always been old and you will always be young.

Then, about one week later, you realize you are suddenly growing old, soon you will be old and soon after that, dead.

Which is okay, if you really think about it.

Poor Bill! You have not aged well for four years old. If you were 60, I would say you had aged very well. LOL
Lisa is very pretty, and the boys are huge! I will keep an eye open for Lynx in case he comes through this way.

Every day I wake up and Thank God for another day. Some days I am very productive; some days I waste time; some days I just seem to march in place. Happy Birthday, Bill. May you have many many more and go through the rest of your life one day at a time. God Bless..... as he has continued to bless you with your wonderful family!
