One last image for the night… Lynxston plays with his grandmother's necklace

He sent his mom home alone. He decided to stay with us for the night. So the plan has changed - instead of me driving Margie into town tomorrow so she can babysit Lynx. I am going to drive into Anchorage by myself. Lynxston will stay here to keep an eye on his grandma, and I will ride the train from Anchorage with the other four and will live-blog my grandsons four hours at the fair with my iPhone.

Then, somehow, before I leave home again I must take Margie to the fair, just her and me. It is a tradition with us. The fair is where we eat our most expensive meal of the year. When we walk about the fair eating unhealthy food, we know summer has reached its end. Except the cob of corn. We always get a cob of corn each. Corn is healthy.

Conflicted sign causes me to fear we might get shot

As we drank our iced coffees, Lavina took us on a joyride. I let her go wherever she wanted to go, even though she had no idea where she was going and she went down a stretch of road I had not been down for a couple of years. We came upon this conflicted sign. We were little bit afraid to go check out the sale, but we decided to anyway. But when we got back there, there was just an empty yard with old trucks and stuff strewn about and a little dog who was barking at us. It was kind of scary. "You better turn around and get us out of here before we get shot!" I said to Lavina. There are some folks around here who take their right to shoot trespassers pretty seriously.

What will Lavina drink?

Lavina accepts the iced coffee from Evalina for Lynxston and me. What is Lavina going to drink? Evalina is excited. Her flight instructor is coming in tonight. She will get to fly again very soon. Lucky lady!

His new used car

Lynxton just showed up with his mother driving his new used car for him. We are taking it on a test drive to get some coffee.

She saw my picture on Facebook

Here I am at Abby's, having slept in very late today. "I saw your picture," Joanne, who is waitressing today along with Leslie, said right after I walked in. She looked sad. I thought she must have seen the one I took of myself on the plane last night. No, she hadn't seen that one yet. She saw one on Facebook - I was sitting alone in a pew with a stained glass window behind me. She said it was beautiful. That would be a singspiration picture, for Lloyd. I haven't been on Facebook for over two days. I will have to check it out. I wonder who took and posted it?

Ever since I picked Margie up last night, I keep suddenly and spontaneously making little mutterings like, "shoot!" or even "dammit!" She will say: "what?" I will answer: "Johnny." The strong, quiet, calm, skilled young man who I followed whaling on Arctic ice through four spring seasons. After such a beautiful funeral service for him, the beautiful service the day before for Lloyd and all the gospel singing, it does not feel right to swear. But still I do.
