I accept an invitation to dine with gulls; Kalib goes to jail, Jobe claims a moose, Lynx opens a door and other wild tales from the past week

The day after I changed this to a weekly blog, I got a phone call from Gull Dan. "Hey, Bill!" Gull said, "It's been too long since we've had lunch together. Why don't you come and join us at A&W? You provide the fries." I did. I know. The gulls were taking advantage of my good nature.

Oh well. There were fries enough for us all.

A day or two after that, some boys came to our door. "Don't let them in!" I warned Margie. "It will be trouble for sure!"

She didn't listen. She let them in. Jobe entered first.

He brought a bell with him. A loud bell - as loud as the bell in Big Ben. He rang that bell again and again and again and just about drove us out of the house. "I tried to warn you!" I told Margie.

Kalib observed Thomas.

Lynxton has figured door knobs out. Pretty scary.

I got up early before anyone else one day and went to Abby's by myself.

Melanie and Charlie showed up. Everybody thought our hallway was a race track.

Melanie, Charlie and I went out for coffee. These folks looked like they could use some, but we had already drunk it all. Most of it, anyway. What we hadn't drunk, we still wanted to drink.

This young moose came charging out of the trees on a collision course with us, but I saw it in time to brake. Charlie got a better picture - all in focus and everything. But I saved the life of the moose, so I feel okay about it.

Boyz in the hood. At least one is in the hood. The other has his hood down.

Kalib is the one in the hood.

Kalib had been throwing these fake sunflowers all over the house. Margie told him not to. He wasn't happy about it, but he stopped. Then Lynx picked them up and threw them himself.

Lynx throws everything he can manage to throw.

"That's my moose!" Jobe said when this one appeared in the back yard. "It's got my name on it."

He wanted us to let his moose into the house, but we didn't. Jobe wandered off after awhile and then so did the moose.

Jobe then wandered back and saw the moose was gone. "Hey!" he exclaimed. "Where did my moose go?"

Where does a three-year old come up with such stuff?

Late in the evening, Kalb put a chair in front of a small table, made a jail cell and incarcerated himself. He stayed in jail for quite a while, then his dad, who was working in Northway even as his mother did a job in McGrath, called.

We gave Kalib the phone. "Daddy!" he exclaimed. "Rescue me! Daddy, you must rescue me." His Dad couldn't rescue him, but after the conversation ended, Kalib rescued himself and walked out of his jail.

I'll let the reader figure this story out with no help from me, other than the picture.

This afternoon, both boys wanted to play with the same rake at the same time. It didn't work. Margie told them to share but they didn't want to.

Update: Saturday, May 11, 12:53 PM: Margie just returned from shopping and she brought back a new little rake, so both boys can play with a rake at the same time. This doesn't necessarily mean they won't find a way to fight over the rakes, though.

Now they are gone and Margie has gone with them. I had breakfast this morning at Abby's. Reckon I'll do the same tomorrow.

I just got another call from Seagull Dan. He wants me to join them again for lunch. I don't think I will, though.

I left out what just may be my favorite sequence of photos I took this past week. It is Jobe, waking up, as seen through my iPhone. I'm not supposed to blog now for another week, but then this series will probably just sink out of sight, never to be seen by anyone.

Maybe I'll sneak it in.

Maybe not.

This post is way too long. That's why I didn't include it tonight.

These things happen when you reduce your blog to once a week.

Spring is fast coming to your area. Yay!
Why is Gull Dan so far inland?

Pi, although it often doesn't seem like it because we have no beaches, the shore is hard to reach and when you get there you will be greeted by mud or high tide, Wasilla is actually a coastal town. Knik Arm of Cook Inlet is about three miles away from where the seagulls and I dined. I hope you are doing well.

My ignorance of that part of Alaska really showed with that question ! I have a number of relatives in Wasilla, Big Lake, and Palmer and have been in the area a few times but never realized how close to salt water you are!
Here in Southeast , salt water is so immediate and approachable and part of everyday. Very different there.

I am doing ok. Thank you for asking.
So enjoy watching your grands grow, the seasons change there, and all that you share .
Best wishes to you and Margie and your whole family.

Seagulls travel far inland in Maine. They've been known to nest and produce young in Greenville, where I used to live, which is about 100 miles from the coast. Seagulls are such survivors; they will travel almost anywhere in their search for their idea of good food. I think it was originally the drawer of landfills that made them extend their range in Maine.

""Hey!" he exclaimed. "Where did my moose go?"

Where does a three-year old come up with such stuff?"

Undoubtedly from the same person who goes out to lunch with sea gulls, and carries on regular conversations with horses too. Know anyone like that Bill? LOL!

Great pictures as usual. Thanks for sharing.
