Climate Change and Environmental Stewardship Study, Number 1: Bacardi in Ice, Day 1:

I took this snap earlier today on my walk. It felt to me like I had posted enough pictures so I thought I would just let it join the multitude of my images that slip unseen into the archives. But then I got to thinking about the combined issues of climate change and environmental stewardship. I decided I should conduct a multi–part study to help us all better understand what is going on. I leave for Barrow in 4 1/2 days, so I will conduct the study within that time. Each study will depict the same object in the same spot, unless a moose or something comes along and kicks it through the ice. I will show its state as the weather changes day by day.

I can't say I will make a study every single day, we'll see.

Anyway, to be redundant, here is Climate Change Study 1: Bacardi in Ice, original fieldwork done by litterbug, likely drunk.

Chicago loves the woodstove

Chicago loves the woodstove when there is fire in it. I love it too. I'm not sure why, but no other source of home heat feels anywhere near so good as that from a fire in the wood stove. Maybe it's because it radiates. The wood has stored the energy of the sun and when it releases it, it's like it's coming straight from the sun on a pleasant day in May.

Chicago also loves the month of May.

The Daily School Bus, Number 2: expected the scholastic connection with Metro Cafe

The Daily School Bus, Number 2: maybe Metro Cafe coffee will bring me back to life. Feeling spaced out, I decided to come inside for a little bit. As Dennis labored at his studies, a school bus came by. I thought about saving it for tomorrow, but I have so many daily school bus photos that I have saved for tomorrow because I had already posted one today, nobody's ever going to see most of them. So I decided to go ahead and run a second one, especially given the scholastic connection between the bus and the happenings in Metro Cafe.

Frederick Fred Rica lost his profile

Yesterday, I heard on the news that an 82 year-old fellow by the name of Frederick Fred Rica was walking through Wasilla when some little kids pelted him in the head with pebbles. He wasn't seriously injured, but much to his distress the pebbles knocked his profile off and he couldn't find it. He looked all over, but his profile was nowhere to be found. He even pulled out his iPhone and checked Facebook, but it wasn't there, either.

Rica was most upset, the reporter reported. "My profile was my best feature!" He lamented. "People always told me, 'Frederick, you have a most magnificent profile. Handsome! When we look at your profile we see a youthful old man.'"

Well, I just found Frederick Fred Rica's profile, frozen here in this mud puddle. I don't know how to get it back to him, but if anyone sees Frederick Fred Rica, maybe they could tell him about it and he can come over to this puddle and try to put it back on. It's just off to the side of Selden Road, not far from Ward's Hill.

I document a confrontation

Given my paucity of sleep last night and the feeling of exhaustion I am left with, I'm not getting much done so far since my return home this morning. I hadn't taken a walk for a couple of days so I decided I had better stroll through the cool air and see if it might help. As I was thus strolling, a sudden, loud, angry, barking erupted just a few feet behind me. It gave me a good start. Woke me up for a few moments.

It was this guy. He had snuck up on me. He was trying to act tough. I could see that as a tough guy, he was a fraud, not to be taken seriously. This made him all the angrier. I documented the confrontation for all of posterity to look at, marvel and wonder about and then continued on my walk.
