Carmen at Metro, contemplating connections between the living and the dead

I see that for some reason, the text I included in my last post on Shoshana did not make it into the blog! Well, I will remedy that when I get home. I am still at Metro, but will leave soon. Carmen and I have been visiting, and speaking of the connections that we feel with those we have loved who have died. Scot has been gone for two months now, Soundarya going on three years. We spoke of them both.

When I was four years old, my mother took me shopping for new shoes. A beautifully dressed older woman was sitting in one of the shoe chairs, quietly talking to the chair beside her. I asked my mother why the woman was talking to nobody. She answered that the woman was talking to somebody very close to her who was no longer physically with her and that was wonderful -- the woman wasn't really alone. I pondered this for many years, and have never felt alone as those close to me left -- they have remained "with me." Possibly my mother gave me permission all those years ago to continue to keep my loved ones close. I have made the choice not to talk to them in public, however. The connections are definitely there in any event. Sending hugs to Carmen.....
