Out on the sea

We spent the entire day upon the ocean and came upon a few whales and I think I got some pretty good pictures with my "real cameras" and almost none with this iPhone, but I am too tired to write anything about it. All I want to do is go to bed and lay down my head for a few hours before we get up very early and go again - weather permitting.

This picture has not been rendered in black and white picture, btw, but in full color.

Stay awake and look for whales

"Don't go to sleep. Keep looking for whales." Edward told them. Narwhal was a bit calmer, but still petty rough. A couple of whales were spotted, including mothers with calves which we stayed far away from. Still, it was pretty rough and we came back sooner than we would have liked. Tomorrow is supposed to be much calmer. Some of the boys are still up with their phones and tablets but the adult whalers are all asleep. I am going to post this and then try to get a few hours sleep myself before we go again, very early if the forecast proves true.

Back into the sea and off toward Narwhal Island

I was looking forward to something hot to eat before we went back out and maybe even a short nap as we waited for the ocean to settle down a bit, but the moment we hit shore Edward was ready to take Eric's boat, with Eric as harpooner and go see what it was like by Narwhal. So I removed my two soaking wet coats, my wet shirts, put on some dry ones and my parka and off we went again. Eric's boat has a canopy but there were a couple of leaks in it that funneled water into the only place where I could position myself to get a good clear view forward so I started getting wet again real quick. I cleared a small amount of space on my phone so I could get a couple of sample shots for here. Here's Edward, looking for whales and other boat traffic. There were a couple of teens and an 11 year-old boy. Edward told them to be watching for whales at all times and not to go to sleep.

Today's first boat ride - a bit wet and cold

On today's first boat ride into the wind and rough sea, I shot about half-dozen iPhone frames then discovered my phone was completely full. We were bouncing around pretty good after that with a lot of very cold water splashing over us and I did not bother clearing space, so I in no way did justice to the scene with my iPhone. I hope I did with my "real cameras," but I was futilely trying to keep them dry, so I'm not sure. We would probably have turned back much sooner than we did or gone east toward Narwhal Island, known to be calmer, but a bit ahead of us the Ipalook boats kept reporting a blow they were following so we followed too. Ultimately Brian decided it was getting too risky, especially with five people in his boat, so we turned back to Cross Island. The Ipalook boats soon did the same.

A shirt for 9/11

Tommy brought this shirt to wear on this day: 9/11. It is also brother Jonah's birthday and the hope is to bring in a whale. We will be on the water shortly.
