Beneath the not quite half-moon: crazy conversation and good ice cream

There was some crazy conversation between Eagle River and Wasilla. I'm not going to try to recount it all, but part of it went like this: Jobe: "I'm Kalib!" Kalib: "I'm Jobe!" Jobe: "There's lots of Jobes." Kalib: "There's lots and lots of Kalibs!"

The moon was out, building to half but not quite there yet. "The moon will be full when we get to grandma's house," Kalib said. Jobe repeated this and then Kalib repeated it again and then Jobe repeated it again…

We stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream and pulled out of the drive-through into the parking lot. There, Kalib licked his ice cream cone beneath the not quite half moon.

This is the reason I went to Anchorage

This is why I drove to Anchorage in the first place - not so much to pick up these boys, but their grandmother. They then wanted to come home with us and so they did. I had rolled the window down in Eagle River so they could instruct me on how to fill the car up with gas. Then I closed the gas cap, rolled up the window and off we went. "Roll down the window! Roll down the window!" Kalib started to shout as we rolled onto Eagle River's main road. "My ear got in the window!" He mean the ear of his hat. I rolled the window down. He pulled it out. "My ear is broken!" he complained. A few stitches had come out.

The guy who shared a brief moment with me at a stoplight in Anchorage

I turned off the freeway in Anchorage at the Boniface exit, pulled up to the first red light and found myself sitting next to this guy. It was one of those cases where you know the picture is going to end the instant the light turns green so you just lift, then shoot. I then begin to figure out how to really frame it and just when I thought I had it, the light turned green, off he went, I put my iPhone down and had to be satisfied with this frame. That's okay. It's not perfect, but Life seldom is.

The Daily School Bus: two at a stoplight

The Daily School Bus: Two at an intersection with a red light and greenlight. One gets to go, the other has to wait.
