The iPhone makes light of what is in front of me

I did not take my daily walk today, so I'm taking a walk this evening. In truth, it is notably darker than it appears to be in this photo, although there is light. If you leave the iPhone to figure out its own exposure, it will take a scene such as this, zero in on the road and try to expose it so the road appears as though you had shot it in daylight. If I had been quick enough and had tapped the screen by the headlights I could have gotten a more accurate exposure, but the car came by, I pulled my iPhone out of my pocket, raised it and shot, just like that. I did darken this a bit by using the Sutro filter, but still the scene appears lighter than it was.

Frustration upon frustration

I'm still here… Just had my second refill. I've had an amazingly frustrating experience since my last post such a short time ago. The post went through to Instagram just fine, but as it so often does, when I went to post it on my blog, logbookwasilla.com, it misfired. Last night, I made a lengthy complaint to Squarespace, detailing all the hassles I have been having with their app. I got a response from them this morning, informing me that they had put a fix on my site and I should no longer get the worst misfire I have been experiencing. Sure enough, I got it again right away. Again, and again, and again… I finally got the post up on the blog, but it took about 20 tries, coupled with a great deal of aggravation.

Social interaction – 50%

Damn! What a rare experience I had last night! I slept good. Better by far than any night since before my little mishap 2 1/2 weeks ago. Now I'm here at Abby's. Dodd Shay and his wife are at the next table and said "hi" when I entered. Half of my social interaction for today? "North to Alaska" is playing on the radio. Andy just brought my ham and eggs. I'm going to eat now.

Alone among the artifacts

Since I returned from Anchorage late this morning, I have been alone in this house and office and I will be for the rest of the week, or at least until Thursday evening. About the only way I will interact with other human beings is when I go to breakfast at Abby's and pull up to the Metro Cafe drive-through window or maybe even go inside once or twice.

There are some good things about being alone. I have a huge amount of work to get done, and I won't have any distractions, save for the barriers in my own mind. Once I punch through them, I should really be able to dig into things and get a lot done. All around me, I see plenty of artifacts left behind by those who sometimes share this house with me. Their presence is still here, even though they are elsewhere.

Who do you think this particular artifact reminds me of? Two people, actually. Margie, who sketched the train to serve as a homemade coloring book, and Kalib, who colored it and added the tracks, smoke and grass.
